YouTube comment response to a joke in a video where I say "Good film criticism is when you summarise things" @RobVespa 1 day ago (edited) "Good film criticism is when you summarize things." Isn't summarizing things the antithesis of good criticism? Plot summary gives the audience the raw ingredients, but criticism evaluates the recipe, the execution and the taste. Confusing the two reduces an art form's evaluation to a Wikipedia Cliff's Notes plot section. Have you possibly mistakenly conflated consumer guidance with criticism? A lot of what passes for reviewing online is functionally a purchasing recommendation (if not just bandwagoning for clicks) - "here's what it's about, here's whether I liked it, here's who it's for." This can be useful. but it's [reply continues for several paragraphs]
EDIT: The original title of this video, “Hbomberguy Is Wrong About Backrooms”, gave some people the impression I was making a Hbomberguy hate video. When I included it as one of the 6 options on my a/b title test, I honestly didn’t consider this for a second - I make a conscious effort to avoid online drama in my life, which is why the video itself is extremely light and professional about the opposing viewpoint. This video was never created to attack Hbomberguy. So that’s why it has a different title that might make the initial Hbomb framing device a bit more jarring lol
