Facebook post: full text - Please share this. It's important to get as much publicity on this as possible. This violates our constitutional rights to travel freely!! A more detailed account of what happened exactly: My passport got seized even though I was just there for a name change and I have a flight out of the country on Feb 9. I had already updated my gender on my passport under the previous administration. All of my other federal and state documents reflect my true name and gender (SSN, driver's license, court order, etc.). I had an emergency passport meeting due to my flight itinerary as I have a ticket out of the country on Feb 9th. So I did not mail my documents off, but had an in-person meeting where my documents were to be returned and a new passport issued on the same day. I was only there for a name change, NOT gender. I asked the passport agency prior to submitting my passport if there was ANY guidance, memorandum, executive orders or other instructions regarding name changes of any kind. They said no. I then asked if there was any situation under which they would confiscate, seize, hold on to, set aside or otherwise not return my documents. They said no. I finally asked if I could withdraw my passport application at any time and have it returned to me and they said yes. Do not go to a passport agency if you've ever changed your gender marker. They said that since I changed my name legally they cannot return it to me, with either my true name and gender, or my deadname and gender, or any combination. There were 3 officers surrounding me now trying to intimidate me. EDIT: This was the Chicago Passport Agency. Cat tax for algo:

You can’t call your classroom a “safe place for everyone” while hanging the physical evidence of your monetary donation to a bigot on your wall. You might as well take the pronouns out of your email signature, take off your “protect trans kids” pin, and take your “in this classroom we don’t discriminate based on . . . gender” poster because your collection display speaks louder than your performative signals toward inclusion could. In the UK, whistleblowers have shared evidence that the NHS has tried to hide that dozens of trans youth have died while on the waiting list for healthcare after policy changes that many US states are copying. In the US, a study has shown that transphobic laws aimed at trans kids can increase suicide atttempts in trans teens by 70%. Policies and politicians that JKR has directly or indirectly supported through her activism and monetary donations.
This is a letter to teachers who consider themselves to be trans allies. If you don't care about or actively dislike trans people, this isn't for you. Today is Trans Day of Rememberance, the day of the year that trans people remember those lost to transphobic violence and suicide. It has been said that trans people have two holidays, “please remember that we exist” and “please stop killing us”. This is the latter. If you consider yourself to be a trans-allied cisgender (not trans) educator, for this TDOR, I suggest that you take down and take home your licensed Harry Potter memorabilia and instead decorate your classroom with art celebrating authors who do not use their immense wealth and influence to harm trans people or other marginalized communities.
