Disclaimer: I am not an expert. Also, this is a bit of a stream of consciousness ramble. - I think what it comes down to is also ease of interaction. It's easier to read and like/reblog/respond to a single post, like some quip, rather than click through to read a whole thread. Things that are easier to interact with will have more interactions just by that nature, which will give an algorithmic boost that compounds to more interaction. Then, people making posts in hopes of interaction will continue to emulate what got them interactions in the past, resulting in more posts of that style. As for your example of the “like this post and I'll answer a question” trend, it again comes down to interaction. Asking for likes or comments, as annoying as it is to see or feels to do, works (at a certain level. There are factors to consider such as how it is asked or for what it is asked or etc). And all OP has to do is answer a question that, as you said, they already know the answer to. As for why more forum based trends don't usually take-off, to avoid sounding like a broken record, I'll bring up a factor not related to just ease of use: UI. [Personal tag: Non-art image.]
