While in earlier considerations of fake documentaries I found the multiplicity of viewing modalities to enable the possibility of critical knowledge, it is now my contention that YouTube has so escalated our culture’s intense indulgence in ways ironic that it has actually become impossible, if not simply downright unpopular, to see the difference between sincerity and satire. We can’t. As a result we inhabit a new structure of viewing that is neither sharp nor critical; rather, we now see muddled and confused, albeit funny. So, fan that I am of Obama, yes we can, and hater (or secret admirer) that I may be of LOLcats, I suggest that there are real perils for a visual culture (and the real it is or will be) where irony becomes so dominant as to be invisible. Irony, and the fake documentary that often packages it, has served long and well as a modernist distancing device, sometimes productively enabling a structure for radical critique. As YouTube makes this style omnipresent, however, its function changes, its edges soften, the firm ground of the resolute double deconstructs beneath our feet. We are in ironic free-fall.

while i think you're analysis is at least partially correct, i think you're cutting out some pretty important framing here. insofar as fnaf content is cooked on youtube, i argue it is necessary to analyze, what is this fnaf content that is being constituted to begin with? by and large it is mining the games for value in the terms of theory. i have been saying for a long time (not to you; that is not important here) that this will not be a long term viable mode of carrying things. i mean, to be clear, there can be to this a question of, do things need to be long-term viable to begin with? to which i mean obviously the answer is no. it is okay for things to exist in a partial way for a moment in time and then dissipate or change as the needs and so forth change too. with regard to this, though, it is important to acknowledge the consistent lack of building infrastructure that could allow for the development of different types of fnaf content. as things have played out, resources and attention and so forth have just been consistently funneled into GodDavid type stuff (which i can expound upon, but by which i mean something specific)...
i'm curious about how you are coming to the conclusion that Scott wouldn't pick a number randomly. is there a precedent you're referring to or what evidence are you using here? likewise, i think there could stand to be more clarity in general (in the community / in FNAF theory space) around what counts as a hint or clue (and thus what should we try to decipher). you mention correctly that there's an endoskeleton in FNAF1 movie which is called Arnold in promo material (i dont have time right now to look up if this name appears in the movie itself or just external sources, so i'll leave that to the side for now). it is true that this name later reappears in Secret of the Mimic as that of the main character. my question here is thus, how would it have been possible to have deciphered this clue in the interim of FNAF 1 movie and release of promo for Secret of the Mimic when Arnold's name was revealed. in raising this question, i'll be forthcoming in saying that i am not aware of a coherent method through which one could have reached this conclusion. as such, i believe it would be incorrect to call Arnold endoskeleton foreshadowing or to call any other vague oddity that pops up foreshadowing. of course, i may be wrong here in which case i would be curious to know the method people used in this case and then would be curious too about the extent to which this would be replicable at scale (i.e., could be assumed true for general case). i believe clarity of method will be the most important thing to develop in theory space going forward (speaking generally). of course i don't hold grudges against those who do this for the love of the game, so to speak, but i believe that there can be better, or at least other, ways of going about things which are yield more discrete and replicable solutions.
Hello, I think your critical framework here has a number of flaws that limit your analysis. I think it's fine to take issue with these trailers and promotional materials however I believe it's incorrect to suggest that Level 5 or Yokai Watch are exceptional in certain ways that I believe you are implying. These include but are not limited to your discussion of the studios' use of "Cross Media" and generative AI. The broad strokes here is that I believe it is necessary to understand the circumstances of advertising in Japan to understand and assess these strategic decisions.
I think your psychoanalysis focus would benefit from more class analysis and industry analysis components. I think some of your arguments make sense and work with the way you're framing things, but I do believe there is a fundamental limit to what you're able to say when your focus remains on the nexus of artist/fan (even moving to the more nebulous space of 'culture' does not change much). For both this video and your transphobia video you float arguments related to the concept that the desires of fans informs the content of the music etc. I think this is effectively not true. Desire is produced by power is part of this. In the context of music discussions, it will always be that record industries and capital are warping forces in how desire functions. Even if we want to talk about underground where maybe people are not signed to labels, it is nonetheless that the means of production are by and large privately owned by the same capital interests and thus, I argue, the same warping forces would be at play. The incentive for capital to inform people's desire is because if they can shape narrative they can shape profit motive and also capitalism in general requires narrative warfare to function. Underground intersects with fashion industry (which is directly tied to empire and capital) is part of this. We can also talk about venues, sure, but I think the even bigger point of discussion -- and this is something you are getting at in this video, in one way or another, is the issue of the platform of discussion (i.e., the Internet).

Just stay safe and out of harms way as possible. I'm really hoping this is the type of problem that will resolve itself without your involvement. Exercise, breathing exercises, meditation, talking to people, finding some form of catharsis, these things will help if you can do them. Don't be scared of your problems, turn that tension into excitement to find a solution. Easier said than done but start with the smallest problems first and work your way up.
