I don't want my silence to be taken as apathy or, even worse, quiet celebration. To say I've been angry, disappointed, or sad after Tuesday would be understatements. Understanding the consequences of this election fills me with limitless dread and sharp resentment toward those set us on this path. But while I have strong political opinions and feelings you'll rarely see me voice them like this. Not because I'm shy about my beliefs, but because my awareness fills me with only negative emotions and I want my streams to be a place to briefly escape from those feelings. A few hours to stop doomscrolling and immerse ourselves in a game world and put ourselves in other characters' shoes for a while. But I should also clarify that when I say "escape", I don't mean that absolutely. All media is political, including video games. But unlike real life, video games are designed for you to have paths to victory. You can make mistakes, control outcomes, and roleplay the fantasy of fixing problems. The side of "good" can win. With everything going on in the world right now, and me dealing with stuff IRL I don't talk about, I feel utterly powerless to help fix the pain I see every day around me and in the news. But every now and then someone tells me, "getting to tune into stream today made my day a little better", and I'm reminded that there's other things we can do to make a positive difference in the world. If what I can do is hang out and provide some company, play some games and provide some entertainment, and do charity streams when I can to raise awareness, then I'm going to focus my all into doing those things the best I can. And for anyone who reads this I ask of you to be strong, don't give up, don't tolerate intolerance, and be kind. A movie I saw recently reminded me that "kindness is a survival skill", and I really believe that's a lesson we'll need to take to heart if we ever want to move forward again from the dark moment we're in where kindness feels so undervalued.
