Freda, a brown tabby sleeps between my feet to keep me company while I'm still bedridden from multiple surgeries that I'm told almost killed me on March 5th. Incarcerated Femoral Hernia with 3 bowel obstructions came out of the blue. One day I was gardening. The next I was was in the ER with what I thought was a kidney stone. Dr. B. saved my life.

Mom, me, and mom's aunt Cora in 1960 in Robertsville. Mo. She used to come home every 4-5 years to see her family. She grew up in Steelville, but she lived the last 25 years of her life in Venezuela. Her husband was a well-known botanist who couldn't be bothered to come home to see his own mother after 1958. I never met him until he finally returned to STL after Cora's death.
