In our local community hospital, the beds were not in fact being used by local people, but by outsiders. Removing those beds provided the opportunity to use the space instead for expanded outpatient and diagnostic facitlities, which are in fact used by locals. That's a win.

Move funding for social care into the NHS and out of the hands of councils to better manage patient journeys. Better for patients across the board.
