A photograph of a book talking about what the author is calling a "Frottage door" 'I noticed that some paint in traditional Swedish decoration ages in a very bold and distinctive way. This is caused partly by how the paint peels away from the surface over time and partly as a result of the old textured paint finishes that were once used. I wanted to achieve such a look for two very old doors at home, which I had already painted duck egg blue. They had grét character but I felt this could be more pronounced by using one of my favourite paint techniques, which I call Frottage - the name comes from the French frotter, meaning to rub. Paint is applied thinly and given texture and character by blotting it with a big sheet of newspaper'
