Not picking on the media outlet that posted this today, because plenty of people are wrong about the "Luddites." They didn't see technology as a threat, per se. In fact, given their *actual* emphasis on labor rights, they might have supported technology that improved the safety of workers.

The leaders of the Luddite movement were executed, and the powerful were thus able to paint their followers as backward opponents of progress. But what they were really lobbying for were labor protections that were ahead of their time.
