A really long red text post that says "The moral of the story being "you should be a good man..." is ....fine, but the other half being "...so that women can fulfill their traditional gender roles" really highlights that the people that the author thinks need to be reformed are The Youths. Like, Subaru is a dick, but he's 15. Like, the worst of the worst 15 year old boys aren't otaku, they're rapists. Subaru's actions are constantly shown to be motivated (negatively) by the way he thinks of women, but the author clearly thinks that the flaw in Subaru's thinking is his framing, not his thesis. Women are something to be won, but in a trad way. The flaw with Subaru's thinking is that he views women around him in terms of softcore vn archetypes, which isn't trad. He has his big revelation in episode 18, he asks a girl to do emotional and social labor for him to help him win favor with the main girl (who asked him to Not Do That), she tearfully says yes, we have a title drop, credits roll. The framing is triumphant. You have to violate the boundaries of the women in your life from the right perspective. 3 episodes later we're shown the ultimate act of love a man can perform: refusing to say "I love you" to his wife, then 40 years later, killing a big monster in her name."
Every little thing takes energy to do, and often this leads to very stupid moments internally. I laid down on my bed at 11:50pm, but not under my covers, and my light was still on, and I still had half my clothes on, but I had to lay there and wait until I had enough energy to fix all those things and get under the covers (12:20am). Very stupid. If anyone knows the name of this mental disorder, please let me know.
For a long time, I hadn't gone to college just because I was sure I wouldn't be able to get through it. Finding out that Hampshire's microbiology professor was a trans woman was a really big deal for me. In large part because of her, and in other large part because of the encouragement from my friend at Hampshire, I want to go to school and follow the dreams I've been told my whole life can't be done. And now the school is shutting down. I can't imagine how she feels. I know for the students it feels apocalyptic.

I do really struggle with VNs like this sometimes. How many times do you have to replay it to see all the endings? Am I working towards a "true" ending, or does one not exist? With no in-game indication, it's easy for me to slide off. Would the art be made lesser with an in game indication? Some people think so. How does the game decide when to show you new stuff, and when not to? If its the personality quiz at the start, oh god which choices did I pick again? Slay The Princess was life changing, but it still bugged me when I had to do whole sections from wrote memory to get to specific new splits. Definitely a personal issue I have with the conventions of the medium, though, and not really a criticism of Courting Death, or a criticism at all.
