Statement from Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton Today’s Supreme Court ruling is in line with over 150 years of precedent — citizenship is a right granted to every person born in this country. It is my hope that this ruling puts an end to the flagrant efforts aimed at tearing down the Constitution. Emma Lazarus famously wrote, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”  That is the promise of this country — that people can come here in search of opportunity, and by investing their time, energy, and love to this country, America invests back in you. This is yet another attempt by Donald Trump to divide Americans and force us into an “us versus them” mentality. However, we will not allow him to separate us from our inalienable rights and the essence of the United States.

Illinois just passed its eighth consecutive balanced budget. I’m proud to have been part of an administration that’s proven yet again that compassion doesn't need to be sacrificed in the name of financial stability. Despite the Trump administration and federal government’s unprecedented efforts to disrupt our fiscal footing, we’re still prioritizing our people and making sure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Illinois continues to make good on our promise to make our state the best place to live, work and raise a family. I’d like to extend my thanks to President Harmon, Speaker Welch, the General Assembly, and my partner in governance, Governor JB Pritzker, for getting this budget across the finish line and putting the people of Illinois first.

Once again, Illinois is leading the nation with first-of its-kind legislation for menopause and perimenopause education. 70% of women who seek care for menopause-related symptoms do not receive the necessary care —only 19% of women even get a diagnosis. This bill incentivizes existing implicit bias training to include menopause symptoms and care, making sure both our practitioners and our patients are ready for this life transition. I would personally like to thank sponsors Senator Adriane Johnson and Leader Camille Lilly, the General Assembly, and Governor Pritzker for continuing to prioritize women’s health. Illinois will keep raising the bar and making sure we remain a leader in this space — both for our practitioners and the women who deserve care.
