Seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964
after buying a 60-minute outrageously expensive(!) tape ('basf') i was finally able to listen the four tracks from 'live! dead' ('dark star-st. stephen-the eleven-turn on your lovelight') as a one continuous 55-minute psychedelic trip – without breaks and without flip the records. a revelation!
The whole cycle of key Hunter/ Garcia tunes on AB all together. I was young and dumb but I knew immediately that the Box - Ripple - Brokedown - Attics sequence was the soundtrack to my life in a deep way and I just needed to figure out how Still working on it but closer
First time I heard Blues for Allah. For me it was like when Reverend Jim took the bite of the brownie (Taxi).
This was what did it for me.
So many. I grew up on GD, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac (Which I think they just transcend time), of course the Beatles. My dad owned record stores when I grew up. Music was a huge part of my life.
On the Beach, maybe...long out of print and my dad dug out his old vinyl copy telling me "you've never heard this shit..." and we played pool with jaws dropped. Side 2 of that is possibly my favorite side of any LP ever

The late show on February 15, 1980 was the first time I saw the Garcia Band. I spied a taper in the audience and he kindly agreed to send me a copy if I sent him blanks. Transformative indeed! Thank you mystery taper. jerrygarcia.com/show/1980-02...
‘It Must Have Been the Roses’ on March 10, 1981 at MSG. It was my first Dead show. During that song, I looked up to the arena entrances and saw people dancing in a circle at each one. It wasn’t coordinated but it was all clockwise circles. At the moment I knew I stepped into something special
