These projects have leveraged similar federal subsidies. However, when we compare the financial benefits to communities as a percentage of those subsidies, we find significant disparities. For example, the Sunrise Wind Project in New York provides community benefits equivalent to 11 percent of the federal subsidy, while the Perkins Renewable Energy Project in California offers just a tiny fraction: benefits equivalent to 0.15 percent of the subsidy.
