1¼ cups of sugar, divided into 3/4 cups and 1/2 cups respectively 1 cup of flour 7 tablespoons cocoa, divided into 3 tbps and 4 tbps respectively 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup milk 1/3 cup butter (melted) 1½ tsp vanilla 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 1¼ cups hot water heat oven 350° in a medium bowl combine 3/4 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 3 tbps cocoa, 2 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp of salt. blend in 1/2 cup milk, 1/3 cup melted butter, and 1½ tsp vanilla and beat until smooth. in a seperate small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 4 tbps of cocoa. sprinkle the mixture evenly over the batter. pour water over the top, and DO NOT STIR. bake 40-45 minutes or until the center is almost set. let it stand for 15-30 minutes before serving. keeps really well in the fridge, but the texture changes dramatically if you like that sort of thing!
