Dani: (1 of 2) During the day, goods and food vendors vied for attention with booming voices and noisemakers, people ferried between the few paying jobs or bartered with their peers, children squealed and chased each other around conversing adults and personal transport vehicles, and industrious creators seemed to swap melodies of varying whirrs and hisses of grinders, blowtorches, and impact wrenches. It was a song of living, a soundtrack of and for folk who had learned to reuse and reshape what little they owned as needed, every one of whom relied on the goodwill of their neighbors to survive. Dred wouldn’t have it any other way, and the corps had another thing coming if they thought they’d crush this community’s spirit.
