Babesia is a malaria-like parasite spread by black-legged ticks, the same vector as #Lyme disease. There are also rare reports of transmission congenitally and via blood transfusion. Its geographic range is more limited than Lyme, but its range has expanded over the years. doi.org/10.1093/cid/...

In the lab, antibody tests are standard for Lyme, but direct detection (PCR, blood smear examination) are standard for babesiosis. Still, most victims of chronic Lyme quackery are fraudulently diagnosed with babesiosis. Therefore, a good direct test for Lyme will not stop CLD scams.
