5 out of 6 Portland mayoral candidates are voting No on A, alongside 10 plus elected officials and local organizations. Join them on Tuesday, November seventh in voting No on Question A. Say no to rent gouging. Say no to roll backs on rent control. Vote No on A.
What is Question 8? Conservatorships are based on courts deciding that someone is mentally unfit to make their own decisions over their finances, housing, etc. The court can decide how they define "mentally unfit" and has historically used it to take agency away from marginalized people. Even though the Maine constitutional provision in question has been ruled unconstitutional by a federal court in the past and therefore cannot currently be enforced, as we've seen with Roe v. Wade, these decisions can be overturned at any time. It is important vote YES ON QUESTION 8 to strengthen voting rights for people in these situations before there is a chance for them to be taken away completely.
what is question 6? question 6 asks that all printed versions of Maine's constitution include the entire document. Section 5 of the Maine constitution is one of the parts that is no longer printed. It references Maine's commitment to honor "all duties and obligations ... toward the Indians" as part of Maine's separation from Massachusetts in 1820. By including this in the constitution , it faces the dark history Maine has in disregarding the rights of its indigenous inhabitants. Transparency of the state's obligations to the indigenous people native to this land is an important step in the fight for indigenous solidarity and sovereignty for Maine.
What is question 4? yes on question 4 requires car companies to provide more access to repair parts and technical data for owners and repair shops. It also requires dealers to tell buyers if the car they're buying is equipped to send data back to the manufacturer.
What is question 3? a yes on question three for pine tree power means putting our power delivery into democratic control and taking it away from greedy, investor-owned multinational corporations. we can achieve better service, better rates, and a mandate to help meet Maine's climate goals by switching to Pine Tree Power! This also means voting voting no on question 1.
What is Question 2? A Yes on Question 2 would prevent foreign entities and governments from contributing to campaigns that will influence ballot questions and candidates in Maine. It will also require disclosure on political ads if a foreign government or entity has donated any money to that advertisement.
What is Question 1? Investor owned utilities knew they would lose when Mainers got to vote on Question 3, so they bankrolled their own referendum. Question One, "no blank checks" is an effort to kick the can down the road for another year giving them time to spend our power bill money on corporate propaganda. Tell them to pound sand by voting NO ON 1.
