Red rose
Classical columns frame the image of a coffered ceiling receding into the distance. St Mark is writing at his desk, within the classical temple, with his lion at his feet. This Catholic image of a saint, remained in a Protestant church because it emphasised the preaching of the gospel (on which St Mark is working) from the pulpit.

Pink rose
The grid pattern seems to result in a lack of focus, but landmarks keep reoccurring. There are churches & cottages. A place seems to be being continually revisited. Perhaps, not surprising since John Virtue was a postman.

David Wasley commented - “'This window, like the Epiphany Window in the ante-chapel of Robinson College Cambridge, is elaborately made and composed of three, sometimes four, layers of glass to achieve the rich, deep atmospheric appearance which glass can offer when up high, sitting in full exposure to sunlight. Up in the window, glass is light-soaked colour becoming stained glass, the pictorial combination of harsh, difficult materials conveying the original master-stroke of the artist's picture-making”.

A wooden Virgin & Child sculpture which has had 6 colourings over the centuries. Museum description - “The Virgin's coat is today white and blue, it was originally red and blue, and the flesh was painted bright pink. Blue is the colour of the divine, while red is, in the Catholic tradition, a mark of life, of the Holy Spirit, but also the colour of the blood of Christ.”
