Waimea Bay has to be one of the wackiest beaches I’ve ever been too. At the entrance there’s like 3 separate signs warning you not to go in the water, but it’s a really fun place to swim if you’re a competent swimmer with lots of ocean experience, so people swim anyway, which confuses visitors 1/4

I almost drowned in an undercurrent as a child which gave me a fear of large bodies of water for about 10 years or so after. Shit is absolutely no joke, but unfortunately yeah I can understand why people'd just not comprehend the danger if they've never experienced one.

The sheer amount of swimmers in the water gives inexperienced swimmers the impression it’s safe to go in, despite the beach being extremely dangerous to swim at. Every time I go, I just see the dumbest shit imaginable. Yesterday it was an unaccompanied toddler in water wings running into the sea…2/?
