For those who only know of the game better known as LoL from its reputation of modern toxicity, the ranked experience was comparable to some form of divine torment. Prometheus tied to the rock with an eagle pecking at his liver eternally, only the liver was my emotions and the eagle said a bunch of slurs. Frustrations with my own ability, my queue-assigned teammates abilities all in a 40 minute long pressure cooker where only one side gets to escape with anything that could be deemed a positive result while the others got the swift boot to the face that is Number Go Down. I dread to think what my neighbour on the other side of the bedroom wall thought of that era of my life. The swearing, the screams... I was also consuming content about the game, especially its burgeoning Esports league (which was available for European timezones as well!) and seeing what peak gaming was like. How the game should be played. So much like Homer Simpson attempting to assemble a brickwork barbecue all I could do was look back to my own games and ask “WHY DOESN'T MINE LOOK LIKE THAT!?”
