I’d spent most of high school on a low-carb diet, becoming so thin I lost my period, so obsessive I had a breakdown after consuming a single Reese’s cup. I bought diet pills that gave me heart palpitations and read magazines that suggested that the worst thing you can do when you’re hungry is eat. I watched a reality show where women got plastic surgery and then competed in a beauty pageant. In college, I became editor in chief of our university magazine, and a photo of our editorial team sparked an anonymous debate about whether or not I was hot. On weekends, my friends and I lined up at frat parties awaiting the judgment of the men who got to decide if we were attractive enough to enter. If one of us didn’t make the cut, we abandoned her and went inside, down to the basement where on the ceiling, in large letters, it read: “Bring your daughter to the slaughter.” We read what Perez Hilton wrote about Britney Spears and learned to hate her, but not as much as we hated ourselves.

More inexplicable hallways, janky Christmas decorations, fake stone, and bad paintings. One particularly weird choice is to have a bad painting hung in a semi-alcove, the design of which really highlights how cheap the fake stone looks. And to top it off, this weird space is meant to be the DINING ROOM OF THEIR INN, so there are all these randos eating silently in the background while they have their family scenes.
The actresses playing mother and daughter (who are apparently fourteen years apart in age but look like they're 43 and 39) sit in an awful living room set with a blatantly fake stone fireplace, a loathsome decorative plate holder featuring boring plates, and some slapdash Christmas decorations, including two random red mugs and a sad nativity set with a bunch of mismatched animals that are way bigger than the holy family. Hallmark is not selling itself as a lifestyle brand here.
Rachael Leigh Cook is standing in what is supposedly her bedroom but really resembles some cursed liminal space. There is a bed but no other furniture. There is a staircase leading up to the room but it's not an attic because there's also a mysterious second staircase leading up to another level? Basically it's Hallmark Backrooms. Also the paintings on the walls are bizarre.
