SIDEWALK SAFETY: GEOFENCING SHERIDAN ROAD Dear Neighbors,  Sheridan Road is one of the densely populated streets in Chicago, and home to a number of vulnerable populations including older adults. Pedestrian safety on Sheridan Road is a top priority of our office, and we are collaborating with neighbors, community leaders, and CDOT on a number of initiatives to slow down cars, create pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and organize our streets to improve safety for all users. To prevent scooter/pedestrian conflict and improve safety for everyone using Sheridan Road, we coordinated with CDOT to expand the existing geofenced no-ride zone for shared e-scooters to include Sheridan Road sidewalks between Devon Avenue and Bryn Mawr Avenue. This change was implemented to address community concerns about frequent sidewalk riding along Sheridan.  We recently made big investments in our nearby Kenmore/Winthrop Greenways, which run parallel to Sheridan Road, and we encourage everyone riding bikes and scooters to use these Greenways as they navigate to/from the Lakefront Trail. Our office continues to coordinate with CDOT to bring a geofence e-bike pilot to Sheridan Road sidewalks between Ardmore and Devon. Read more about our pedestrian safety work on Sheridan here.

In the 1950s, the road was extended — first briefly to Bryn Mawr (5600n) and then in 1957 to Hollywood Avenue (5700n). The road included rubble and debris from the destruction of homes razed for the construction of the Congress Expressway (now the Eisenhower Expressway). Prior to the extension to Hollywood, traffic was funneled onto Foster, then north onto Sheridan Road, which still remains a wide 4-lane street to this day, though most traffic doesn't rejoin Sheridan until LSD ends at Hollywood Avenue now. Sheridan Road south of Foster narrows to 2 lanes of traffic with street parking on each side as well.
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that an individual operating a bicycle approaching a stop sign may proceed through the intersection without stopping at the stop sign if the individual slows to a reasonable speed and the individual yields the right-of-way to any pedestrian within the intersection or an adjacent crosswalk, other traffic within the intersection, and oncoming traffic that poses an immediate hazard during the time the individual is traveling through the intersection. Provides that the provisions regarding the operation of a bicycle at a stop sign do not apply to an individual operating a bicycle when there is a stop sign when exiting an alleyway or at a 4-way intersection with only 2 stop signs present. Makes other changes.

This is where things get really messed up, which is saying a lot considering the ground we’ve already covered. In 1980’s Wonder Woman #270, Hippolyta became fed up with Diana’s constant moping over Steve’s multiple deaths, so she decided to mess with her daughter’s memory AGAIN. Aphrodite called upon the Mists of Nepenthe to make Diana forget she ever knew Steve Trevor. (That’s right DC fans, it’s the return of amnesia gas, one of my favorite plot devices.) The day after Diana was drugged with the Mists, a Steve Trevor from a parallel Earth flew his plane through a hole in reality and crash landed on Paradise Island. (Read that sentence again because that happened.) Diana rescued Steve, unaware that this had happened before, and every Amazon around them secretly whispered variations of “here we go again.” Hippolyta had learned her lesson from the last time she messed with her daughter’s memories and used the amnesia gas on the rest of the world the entire world instead because that’s totally a good and ethical alternative. The Mists ensured that the Justice League or Diana’s civilian friends wouldn’t point out that she already dated a pilot named Steve Trevor.
