For any ’90s UK gamer, nothing quite matched the thrill of a new game: admiring the cassette tape inlay art or leafing through a well-illustrated instruction booklet whilst the game loaded. Those little extras were just as magical as the game itself. Sometimes better? #retrogaming #retrocomputing

She looks like she needs the loo… badly. 🤣

Don't make fun of her little extras like that. I'd say Exile had the best novella that I physically owned. Really creepy set up story that was modelled on the game world. Cholo was another good one.

There were some great "feelies" you'd get in those big box games. Beneath a Steel Sky had a short comic with sort of prequel to the games story. Vaguely remember some MSX murder mystery game that came with a load of clippings that were actually for clues you find in game!

Yeah. Things like manuals etc in the boxes just made a new game feel even more special. It's so miserable popping open a new game for my PS5 or Switch and there being nothing more than a disc/cart and if I'm lucky a flyer trying to sell me DLC....
