States should not elect Presidents, US citizens should. I am not the state I live in, and I can vote for anybody of any party at any level - but only the POTUS is decided by disproportionately lumping my vote in with others in my state. The Electoral College hasn't made sense since the Civil War.

Yes. USA has had a remarkably resilient political system over the last 250 years. But the electoral college is an anachronism now. It assumes constituancies need to be grounded in physical locations, whereas modern communication and info-technology allows consituencies to form across state borders.

The US was structured with numerous connections to the minority conservatives trying to gain power over the liberal majority - hence the Electoral College, 2 senators per state, the 3/5ths compromise, and the vast majority of Gerrymandering.
I’d be fine with the constitutional amendment it would take to abolish the electoral college. That said,TX is becoming a purple state. Many of the battleground states from ‘24 will be simply untenable for ‘28 such that it may work for the democrats for a few decades like it worked for the right.

Abolishing the electoral college requires a constitutional amendment. Repealing the 1911 Reapportionment Act requires changing a Statue. Impose the Wyoming Rule and increase the number of votes by 2 or 3 times the number today.

On the one hand, I can understand why it exists. People in rural states don't deserve to have their concerns steamrolled by more populous ones. There are rural issues that deserve a voice. But the Electoral College isn't the way to do that.

The Senate gives each state more than sufficient representation in the federal government. The president should be picked entirely by popular vote. And every seat in the House should represent the exact same number of citizens, across the entire US.
