Since the electoral college is rooted in slavery to give states with more slaves than free persons more influence in national elections, we can disband it as now unnecessary with slavery abolished. IMO

I don't like either. I don't think democracy should be 'whoever wins a popularity contest is emperor for four years. If you do reforms, give up on the presidential republic. Increase the importance of the congress and make a proportional election system mandatory for all states.

And what do you all think about mandatory voting? Some countries use it. It would completely derail the GOP's constant efforts to suppress voting. The local election officials would be required to achieve 95% turnout or they (yes, the officials, not the voters) would be severely punished.

The Senate gives each state more than sufficient representation in the federal government. The president should be picked entirely by popular vote. And every seat in the House should represent the exact same number of citizens, across the entire US.

Getting rid of the electoral college means each vote counts equally and would eliminate a few states being the deciding battlegrounds. All states would be competitive. 💙🖖🏻

Another benefit to abolishing the Electoral College: EVERY voter will matter, regardless of where they live. Candidates will have to visit all 50 states in order to build support. Ignore California, Texas, South Carolina, and New York at your peril. "Battleground state"will become an anachronism.
