If you're not already sick of us talking about LED lights, want to find out how much they can save? Let's use the Griswold home to find out! We'll assume Clark used 200 24-ft. strings of lights to cover his house. Incandescent bulbs can use up to 7 watts each. That's 168W per string or 33,600W for 200 strings! At $0.32/kWh, that would cost roughly $11 an hour. LED bulbs may be rated for 4.5W for an entire string. That's only 900W for all 200 strings. Even better, a set we tested was rated for 4.5W but only used 1.5W. That means it would only draw 300W for 200 strings. That would cost only a fraction of a cent per hour. It also means you could theoretically connect 1,000 strings on a 15 amp circuit without tripping a breaker (or causing a neighbourhood blackout). We say theoretically because all lights come with a limit on the number you can safely connect together. Yep, we're nerds.
