I purchased a car for work and commuting in November, a 2017 subaru outback with 200k+ miles. I've heard that with proper maintenance they can last a lot more miles, which the history report and a mechanic friend's inspection suggested that it should have had. But I recently learned that its head gasket is failing and the engine can shut down at any moment because of it. Replacing the necessary parts would exceed the value of the car itself. I have been told that I should get a different vehicle entirely. Since I used up a majority of my funds on acquiring and fixing up the subaru, I would not be able to afford that level of repairing or a different vehicle altogether. I plan on selling it but that wouldn't give much of a return due to the head gasket issue. Where I am in Louisiana it is practically impossible to go to and from work everyday without a car, and if I were to lose my current job, I would be breaking the rules of my work visa, and I would be forced to leave the country if that happens. I hate the idea of asking others for funds but I could really use some help getting a different vehicle before the current one dies.
