North American Rayon Corporation #1, a 1936 H.K. Porter 0-6-0 fireless steam locomotive. It has no firebox, the boiler is filled with steam from an external source and acts like a pressure vessel to store it, and thats how the engine runs. It worked at the NARC textile plant, in Elizabethan TN, taking in and delivering freight cars with the Eastern Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railway (the Tweetsie), from 1936 to at least 1985 possibly as late as 1992! Here it is painted red white and blue to celebrate the US Bicentennial, while moving a Missouri Pacific Railroad boxcar.
