Worrying message… anyone know why this would happen, even though I’m not (knowingly) running any screen recording/sharing app, and no external displays connected?

Was surprised to see it myself last year. In my case it turned out to be DisplayLink (side stepping 1 external display limit on m1)

Don't worry about that. You can literally see someone with a camera pointed at you in the reflection.

Just cause you’re paranoid…

I mean, it's technically correct...even if it is just you observing it. That's very strange, though.

Time to reboot if you’re not actively using any app that’s allowed to record your screen. Also check System Settings -> Screen & System Audio Recording for app-specific permissions.

You should be able to click the icon of two overlapping rectangles in the menu bar to get more details about why your screen is being shared. This article about Messages screen sharing has details about that support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/...
