Emergency responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after finding him unconscious at his Washington, D.C., residence in June, according to recently released dispatch audio. A District Fire and EMS dispatch call recording from June 14, first reported by Punchbowl News and made public on Wednesday, shows that an Advanced Life Support ambulance arrived at the 84-year-old Kentucky senator's home shortly before 9 a.m. Paramedics responded to the scene for a "cardiac arrest."

On 4 November 2016, in Wilmington, I watched Trump's plane land with fanfare at the airbase. The rally began with a prayer. Pink "women for Trump" signs waved defiantly in response to accusations of sexism. The slogan of the night: "The silent majority is for Trump." Many told me the liberal media had smeared them as racists, xenophobes and misogynists. "We've been quiet," one man said. "But we'll speak at the ballot box." When I asked another man what "make America great again" really meant, he looked at me and said, simply: "Just make it great." After the rally, people went to a Mexican restaurant close by, seeming to forget talk of Mexican migrants stealing jobs. It was one of the town's most popular spots. When I asked the Trump supporters there if they had personally lost work, most said no. Few had ever even met migrants except at the restaurant. The fear wasn't rooted in personal experience - it was ambient, absorbed, an adopted narrative.

The back-to-back hearings before the Energy and Commerce and the Ways and Means committees come after Republicans allowed enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies to expire at the end of last year, a move that led to sharp premium increases for millions of Americans. Congress has few immediate plans to address the lapse in the tax credits. The House and the Senate have yet to reach a deal to lower skyrocketing health insurance premiums. And with the Senate out this week and the House set to go into recess next week, the odds of passing a bill anytime soon are very slim, experts say.

The latest non-farm payroll, just released, shows that US employment rose by just 73,000 in July, rather weaker than the 110,000 new jobs expected. But the big shock comes in the latest revisions to payrolls, with previous estimates for both May and June being revised sharply lower. The Bureau of Labor Statistics now estimates that just 19,000 new jobs were created in May, 125,000 fewer than the 144,000 previously estimated. June's data has been revised down too showing that just 14,000 new jobs were created, not the 147,000 reported a month ago. The US unemployment rate has risen to 4.2% from 4.1% in June. This surprisingly weak data may be a sign that Donald Trump's trade wars, and the associated uncertainty, have cause more damage to the US economy than previously thought. There could also be an impact from cost-cutting DOGE program pushed by Elon Musk.

It's estimated that the elimination of these credits will kill 2 million jobs by nipping a nascent US EV manufacturing boom in the bud before it really gets started. Many of those jobs will be lost in states whose Senators voted for the bill, like Tennessee and South Carolina which will lose 140k and 135k jobs respectively. All four Senators from those states - Marsha Blackburn, Bill Hagerty, Lindsey Graham, and Tim Scott - voted to put their constituents out on the street.
