I was assuming that the decline was due to the deluge of cat postings in my feed. Please find a way to tweak the algorithm to make it stop.

Paul in the UK · Jun 9

True the other side can’t read.

@grairdan.bsky.social · Jun 8

Did you sell all your stocks in 2021 after a prolonged selloff?

Radical Left Homo · Jun 8

This is a safe haven from the “diversity” of fascist bots & propaganda for many. They still manage to creep in but so far it’s wonderful & I personally don’t want to be a part of a community that invites morally bankrupt people & bots just to increase clicks & posts. That’s why I left Meta.

Qaein Fas · Jun 8

Data? You're trying to argue with someone using facts?! Have you seen what these people believe about reality? If they don't believe it, it can't be true! What do facts have to do with it?

Cockade Brigade · Jun 8

It’s kinda ironic that the WaPo is the one saying that BlueSky decline stems from never hearing from the other side. Here’s the thing. Engagement happens here naturally. It ebbs and flows. It’s not on constant hype mode. It’s more authentic.

Cathleen · Jun 10

Ok Mark, It seems that there are other platforms overwhelmingly right wing, this is obviously left, seeking comfort isn't new just host a neighborhood barbecue and watch genders gravitate toward each other. I understand your perspective but X, Trusocial and Twitter X are hostile. This is comfort.

Kate · Jun 8

My stress level is far lower here than at that Nazi place

Alejandro Lozada · Jun 9

Have you been to the other side lately? It's blatant racism, sexism, xenophobia, and outright fascism as not only normal, but desirable.

Inafume · Jun 8

Didnt you respond positively some bullshit Musk spewed?

Andrew the Giant · Jun 9

Now what percentage of engagement or activity on each platform is bots vs real people?

JFG · Jun 8

I don’t think you can look at a global traffic number and decide that is the primary reason. There are so many other ones: the influx of Brazilian users when X was banned may have dropped of, etc.

Alejandro · Jun 8

umm… I’m good with letting the fascists all stay on twitter

Comeonforsome · Jun 8

What about true social? X Is a cesspo. Please give us a fucking break

@medatblue.bsky.social · Jun 8

That is one data point. What about X and Fox? Most media tends to specialize in a certain demographic.

@weekapaug401.bsky.social · Jun 8

I would have to agree. Everytime I come on its just a bunch of angry liberals yelling at the sky. Its the same topic every day Trump is bad, the DNC is bad, why don't we have more unelectable progressives, etc. The echo chamber here is similar to Twitter it is just more liberal in tone.

Sharon R Love, Ph.D. · Jun 9

I don’t think it is from not hearing from the other side, I think we are being heavily saturated by the other side daily and frankly we are full! We are rapidly reaching the “do something” phase whether it is protests, strikes or shutting the country down…

Annie · Jun 8

Whomp whomp. People will go where they please. 🤷‍♀️

Bob · Jun 8

Hey make that graph go back a bit longer and maybe you will be arguing in good faith

William K. Cody · Jun 8

The "diversity of thought" on X, where every single left-of-center post was met with the digital equivalent of tomatoes and eggs relentlessly to the point of exhaustion was why we left X. But you know that......

jefferson · Jun 8

That curve looks like it’s leveling out to me

@joannasmith2025.bsky.social · Jun 8

Who is the WP actually talking to to arrive at that conclusion?

Rose Noir · Jun 8

How can we resolve this to bolster the usage?

Jason's Living Room · Jun 9

The jump from "more opinions" to "don't sympathize with Nazis" is a little quick in the comments. We can embrace more thought while still drawing lines in the sand with moderation. We can have a better platform and avoid being an echo chamber

Candy England · Jun 8

Well you see… The problem here is most non-liberal posters simply show up to insult or argue… or both. Very rare is there any rational right wing thought really worth engaging. I’m 74. I have no time to spare for insult, ignorance or abuse. None. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Joyce Millman · Jun 8

Go back to X.

@gregskysky.bsky.social · Jun 9

I reject the premise that posts with differing opinions are more important than posts with accurate facts.

Tim "Deluge" McCoy · Jun 8

@mcuban.bsky.social Why not use Deleuze and Guattari's rhizomatic theory of a nonlinear, interconnected, non-hierarchical organism to build the new economy. Or maybe it's been done. Are you paying attention? Everything doesn't have to be subjected to competitive mediation to be valid, does it?

Tim "Deluge" McCoy · Jun 8

This is clearly a misunderstanding of reality. Everything is a bubble. Simple. Fact. The question is how to we connect the bubbles to advance society and the human condition? Any ideas @mcuban.bsky.social ? If you need help with that let me know.

Boris Palchik · Jun 8

You’ll never know what that trendline looks like for X because there is no transparency and they will never publish it.

fuginugly · Jun 9

Yes people love arguing with strangers.

Sick of this shit · Jun 8

Lack of maga, crypto bots and Nazis is what makes this platform usable. The only problem with engagement on Bluesky is sports twitter and the non-political popular shitposters and their followers didn’t make it over here

M

Mark Kiefert · Jun 8

This chart is meaningless without also showing X/Twitter and social media as a whole.

@skip1515.bsky.social · Jun 8

Well, I can’t read the (take note) opinion piece as I cancelled my WAPO account when (Bezos) decided not to present a diversity of opinions. #irony And as others have noted, Mark, where do you see thoughtful, good faith conservatives posting to any degree? No one wants to have to cut thru the bs

JO… · Jun 8

It’s still so much better. Who needs more if it’s just so much garbage?? I’ll take small and quality, thanks.

📎 · Jun 9

Mark, just because most of the United States has daddy issues doesn’t mean we have to create a product for them. Fuck them. You’re just chasing a singularity like the rest of the data hawks.

I_LoveYou · Jun 9

NO SHOCK: the “good billionaire” implies we need to listen to confederates and nazis. There’s no such thing as a good billionaire. They’re all ghouls

Winston / Enzo 🔜 FD/MP/SF · Jun 8

When “the other side” presents nothing more than fabricated and regurgitated talking points rather than discussing anything in good faith… Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

@paulopatrezzi.bsky.social · Jun 8

Says the Washington post who’s owner bent the knee to an authoritarian president

Wendell Alexander · Jun 8

If you're worried about fewer people reading your posts, you could always see how good your numbers are on X, Facebook, or Reddit and switch if they're not to your liking here.

@thelonecrazyhorse.bsky.social · Jun 9

My twitter was balanced, left for a couple of years, it felt like being force feed by an algorithm. I returned it was 90% rightwing conspiracy nuts, Sorbo, Woods, Gibson etc. I wouldn't mind if they had a valid point but it's just hot garbage. Bsky may be less balance, but it's more factual

Legion4it · Jun 9

Mark, as you and I both know, there is a certain subset of people that hate life so much they want to see everything good around them, destroyed. The only way to rise above this is to push reason, logic, posivity, and information. Truth will always win out. Keep being a light in darkness.

DoxieMom68 · Jun 8

Ugh. I’d leave here too if right wing hate was shoved down my throat.

Lolo #Resist #NoKings #Protest #LoveYourNeighbor · Jun 8

The other side? Fascists!

@jrv75.bsky.social · Jun 8

We already know what the other side thinks. “Trump is great and just have to believe in him blah blah blah.” We don’t need any of that here. Go to x for that crap.

Dakota Cammarn · Jun 8

The thing is, we don’t want right-wing shitposters here. I’ve heard you have group chats for that.

@michaelmozina.bsky.social · Jun 8

I think the trick is to expand the topics and the number of different communities here. MAGATS don't have the mental capacity to have an adult conversation on political topics, so hoping for improved political debate here is a pipe dream IMO. They don't even perform well on their own home turf.

A Genuine Catfish · Jun 8

That's not a bad thing, Mark. Most people on this platform move on from bad ideas instead of engaging. Bad actors get bored and move on. I don't think a positive place for idea sharing is bad because the numbers aren't big enough. Is Harvard bad for being exclusive?

Shadrach North 🇨🇦 · Jun 8

On the other hand, engagement on this site isn't governed by kissing a billionaire's ass, surely you agree that is far more important?

Frank Barbados · Jun 8

Nobody gives a shit about this dude, we yeet nazis here so fuck off

Lorikins · Jun 8

Do other platforms, with actual real individual users, have an increase in users? For those around me, they've stopped using social all together because of surveillance and bad actions of the broligarch.

Nobody Special · Jun 9

I no longer read the washing post, maybe Jeff's upset bluesky do not have Amazon adds yet.

@tominaug.bsky.social · Jun 8

People don't seem to have learned after the last election. People on Reddit acted shocked, but the next day went right back into their bubble.

Mark · Jun 8

They are welcome here but they can't post lies about drumpf they can post their opinion and facts not made up crap

@wiseolddog.bsky.social · Jun 9

Mark, one of the reasons I DON’T post more is because I don’t have to “fight “ with people!

Dotbob · Jun 8

I don't agree with this assessment.

@mcanada42.bsky.social · Jun 9

Big Cdn fan!! Make BlueSky like Twitter but eliminate Hate Speech. It must be open to all opinions but not Hate speech. Define it and monitor for it. Always good to have healthy debate

@ostrakon.bsky.social · Jun 8

Debate is great, but some things should be givens. Are we all equal or are some more equal than others? Do we want to be a democracy even if the “others” are included? Should we cut taxes for some while taking food away from others? Sometimes there are simply not “good people on both sides.”

Carol · Jun 9

The hate on twitter made me leave. I’m not going back. Everyone has opinions, but trying hard to bully and hurt someone mentally is not what should be allowed, but Twitter seems to encourage it. The worse the hate the better they like it.

Staid Winnow · Jun 8

So, why not invite some Nazis, Mark? Surely Musk is free these days.

Effing Grim · Jun 8

Preferring the engagement you get on X to the “fraught” engagement you have to endure on Bluesky is bizarre. Refusing to even engage with the audience on Bluesky with duplicate post is a revealing choice. AI slop and unregenerate racism are objectively bad btw.

Daniel Babcock · Jun 9

Neat. Now do "X" and subtract out the bots.

Maureen · Jun 8

Turn this into twitter adjacent and you will see no engagement. Stop shitting on the people who helped build this platform. Mark we know you are an investor. Stop with the bullshit.

@scotsnd.bsky.social · Jun 8

What’s the fix? How do we engage in healthy conversation when healthy conversation seems temporarily dead?

SLOW LEARNER 🇨🇦 · Jun 8

Mark, if you don't like it here, you can always go back to Elon's hate site. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish with today's threads.

@mebe7.bsky.social · Jun 8

how's Twitter doing?

Patty Read Project 2025 · Jun 8

Wrong! We don't want the hate! We are very happy. You can't send a Pic in a private chat. There is no edit. There is very little push to get more subscribers.

Todds Unlimited · Jun 8

What KIND of diversity, Mark? Please name it because I see a lot of groups here who were driven off Twitter by relentless bullying and hate. So who is missing and why are they so essential? Can you put words to it?

PacificNorthWexican 🌱 🫘💚🐼 is at #ATmosphereConf · Jun 8

Marc - the “lack of diversity” of thought because we aren’t inviting people who would see us dead in real life for opposing their dear leader to comment on our thread? If I had to guess who lacked diveristy of thought in his circle it would be a Billionaire white guy w WAY TOO reach in our world.

Little Sebastian Didn’t Die for This · Jun 8

Not every side deserves to be heard

J to the O to the H to the N · Jun 8

We tend to engage more when we disagree with people vs when we agree. Human psychology.

Mr. Cait · Jun 8

Oh yeah. It’s a crying shame we can’t get more Nazis here. Fuck off

Innerlogic · Jun 8

Is it that, or everything is dominated by politics right now? If you're not into that subject, then you're going to lose a big audience.

@kathykadane.bsky.social · Jun 8

Tell that to Bezos

JP Mar.-Men. · Jun 8

In other words, without the fighting, platforms don’t do well. It’s almost like they are designed to pitch people against each other to generate engagement. 🙄

mary-colin · Jun 9

whatever it may lack re diversity it's leagues ahead in terms of coherence and factual accuracy. and re civility it's kinda like the difference between a purse lipped tut tut and a knee to the groin.

@jpure.bsky.social · Jun 8

Bluesky needs more Nazi voices or those who believe in American exceptionalism cannot face critics who say it is crumbling under the regime of corrupt Nazi idiots? You decide

TuckingFypos · Jun 8

I think the "diversity of thought" you're seeing on the other site isn't real- it's really just fringe beliefs being propped up by bots, nation-states, and bad actors.

Gaz (σκιτω) · Jun 8

oh no we are totally missing out on the refreshing takes from the nazis what shall we do

Vinmcdz · Jun 8

You can fuck off on this one. Sorry that I don't want to be surrounded by literal fucking Nazis. You're free to fucking leave.

David Marquiss · Jun 9

They'd be more welcome if they wouldn't post things that violate the Terms of Service and basic human decency. Why don't you go on Twitter and try to reason with them?

Jaroslav B. · Jun 8

I believe Elon will help BlueSky again by his own actions. :-D

Hurricane · Jun 8

Respectfully disagree, @mcuban.bsky.social … the 👿 of ❌ live in their own angry echo chamber, and believe Faux News. You assume we don’t hear differing opinions here, but we do, and we agree to disagree and move on. Don’t buy in to Bezos’ blah blah BS.

Lost Sierra Jim · Jun 8

Now do the radical right and X. Oddly that article never appears.

Eric 🇺🇦 🇨🇦 · Jun 8

I again ask you, what diversity of thought is missing here? Be specific

@yourcolorcoach.bsky.social · Jun 8

Maybe it’s because many of us are flippin’ speechless.

K. Moore 🦋📚🎼 · Jun 8

Not hearing from the other side or whatever doesn’t mean we are not aware of what they say and do. It’s up to the individual on Bluesky to curate their feed. Each to his own.

Morrow1919 · Jun 17

It would be good to include those from the MAGA groups and also traditional conversatives and right-wingers. However I think we need to hold them accountable and force them to drop the willful ignorance that has taken over. You can't have a rational or productive conversation otherwise.

Sick! Trees! (2026 Remaster) · Jun 8

Feel free to leave

@donnalacour.bsky.social · Jun 9

Unfortunately, I do t see a way to increase diversity of thought without things deteriorating to hateful redundant rhetoric like is found on the other platforms🫤

Jason Cross · Jun 8

1. I don't find "diversity of thought" on Twitter, I find another (now far-right & conspiratorial) echo chamber. 2. I wonder what a similar chart for Twitter would look like, if we could get an honest one?🤔 3. The diversity Twitter is missing isn't of "thought" it's of content. >>

Mikel · Jun 8

Mark, show me the right wingers that are open to fact -based dialog about ANY current issue. If you are still supporting this "administration " you are a lost cause! I'm sorry but that is just how it is now. They belong to a fucking CULT!

Gavin Frederick · Jun 11

Please post Xitter's engagement data, oh wait, Edolph won't tell us! Sure it's not great that user engagement on Bluesky has decreased but user engagement on Meta is decreasing and I'm certain Xitter's engagement is probably declining as well.

Old Dog · Jun 8

Take it from WaPo, they would know what happens when you only tell one side

Bad and Bougie · Jun 13

Dude we are all tired and distracted by the cluster fuck around us. This is a billi9naire problem. Not a lay person problem. We are all ok.

@judithks.bsky.social · Jun 9

Baloney!

Logatex · Jun 8

We don't want a Nazi Bar

Just me · Jun 8

Nah, We were all more active straight after the election. Now we got back to normal in a sense that we don’t post too much. Yet I use the platform daily. The amount of posts is irrelevant because sometimes it’s just retweets and quote tweets or repetitive commentary of same things.

Janet B · Jun 8

I prefer quality to quantity, overall. Considering the mess we’re living through right now, which will have a direct effect on our future, other fluff subjects seem trivial to me. I don’t have the bandwidth nor patience to deal with crazy/stupid and prefer logic/reason and big picture thinking.

K

This objectivity is why you're a billionaire and the comments on here aren't. You're 100% right. This is a ridiculous circle jerk. A bunch of furries advocating for open borders for ONLY the US with non justification other than to virtue signal.

Which is more productive? Reach 10,000 assholes or 1,000 good people who show up? Only 1 in 100,000 cultists will ever leave their cult. It's a cult Mark, they are all gonners. There is nothing for me on X. Literally nothing. We hang out here and also on Substack. Substack is GREAT now

Str8Grandmother · Jun 8

Paywalled. Pls give a quick summary of what it says. Thank you.

@fakiqc.bsky.social · Jun 9

Kevin Wayne Williams · Jun 9

The purpose of social media isn't to validate Republicans views -- and one can only consider BlueSky to have "failed" if one uses that as the metric.

Mr Stephen Pike · Jun 8

Trust a billionaire to think that the only measurement of success is perpetual growth.

Stephano N🇲🇽🇺🇸 · Jun 9

No offense Mark, but couldn’t this all be explained by the fact that most corporate industries just haven’t setup shop here? Same with celebrities? I mean the @nba.com and @wnba.com barely came over a month or two ago and started cross posting. Hardly seems like a “diversity of thought” thing.

Mike ? · Jun 9

Twitter is owned by EM. That’s the #1 reason I won’t use it again.

@adayinmylife64.bsky.social · Jun 8

LizB · Jun 8

WaPo. Over it. Nuff said.

Tom Owens · Jun 8

Most people went right back to X because this place is nothing but a blue cult echo chamber.

Julez · Jun 8

Bluesky is a much calmer site, less biased content. I follow who I deem to be legit news sites. We need more mainstream sites to join and post—not just create an account and then not use it.

Adam · Jun 8

Everything doesn't have to have exponential growth, Mark.

Pithy Poster · Jun 8

Definitely a decline! Thank you a lot for the metrics. Initially, bluesky look like a safe place rather than “X“ and Elon or threads and Zuck. I can get plenty of arguing at the other sites. Blue sky, affirms, and confirms my fears of the Trump administration. This is my safe place. I’ll stay here.

Quality over quantity, any day. Also, remember how, on forums, politics were usually banned or relegated to one area where only some users would go to argue, while everyone else hung out on boards dedicated to the actual topic of the forum? There was never any golden age of non-polarizing,

@leajacobsen.bsky.social · Jun 9

president musk, Zückerbucks, capt Blue Phalanx and Mr Cuban want you to believe Bluesky is failing

ljconrad · Jun 8

It is in the 'Opinion Section' for a reason. It is one person's opinion. No one wants to re-create Twitter. As someone who uses multiple social media platforms; each has their usefulness. Bluesky is like attending a retreat in the Vermont countryside. We just want a little peace in our lives.

@mroseberry.bsky.social · Jun 8

Come on, Mr. Cuban. This is no longer "we can have different opinions on politics." We are way past that. Zero tolerance for Republicans and Magats. They have nothing of value to add to the conversation. They are killing democracy.

@rbsnst.bsky.social · Jun 8

How do we get diversity of we have other platforms the extremists can go to…….extremists stick together…..they are not about having a rationale dialogue

Il forno 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 · Jun 8

Diversity is not MAGA or Christian nationalism — that's driven by hate and fear. By the way, BSky, slow down. People are afraid of repercussions. Keep that in mind, okay?

GSPRunner · Jun 8

Hmmm, Washington Post Opinion you say? Ok then.

American · Jun 9

Not sure if I agree or disagree. What is your definition of “diversity of thought”? Does it include lies and fake news? Or, do you mean different opinions? If it’s the former, I disagree. If it’s the latter, I agree.

Tollman 🇨🇦 · Jun 8

Giving a different view turns people into verbally violent monsters here just like it does on X. Different side of the same coin. I could say Trump knows how to hold a steak knife correctly and Dems will lose their mind telling me I'm a nazi.

🏆 Pragmatic J ✊🏾 · Jun 8

You mean the lack of conspiracy theorists, facists, and liars is hurting usage… sounds fine to me

Paintsplash · Jun 8

Yes, any platform that recruits a particular political side isn't ultimately going to do that well. Echo chambers really aren't interesting, which is also why Truth Social is stagnant. Even Twitter is going in the echo chamber direction, but not as much.

Griff · Jun 9

Look, I have no objection whatsoever to hearing the opposing point of view. The only problem that I invariably encounter is their complete inability to formulate a coherent, Cogitative argument. Most of it is nothing more than neofascist, alternative fact based, nonsensical gibberish...

tbh though, i don't come here for discourse. i could go on literally any other social media platform for that. I like the peace here and block features. And I'm not swarmed with negativity and doom posting every time i open it. Bsky has room for improvement, of course, but that will come with time
