I don’t know much about it but I would think eliminating the Electoral College, Citizens United and Term limits could turn this all around for democracy.

Try looking at the preferential voting system as used in Australia. It's a "ranked" system that works.
And even as a socialist and frequent critic, I thank you for that, however much or little effort was expended.

Ranked choice voting is the most impactful thing we could do for democracy writ large. It allows every candidate a fair shake.
The people’s choice win in NY and now the “establishment” is working hard to discredit him and to, potentially, change the system. It doesn’t allow for cornering voters as much as the current system.
Why not first past the post? Genuine question as to me out seems the simplest and easiest way no?

That’s not modern day lobbying, modern day lobbying is where you pay our politicians to corruptly change the system to benefit somebody. This did literally nothing.

Didn’t work in NYC. You have to have an open primary for ranked choice or the extremes play the system.

I could see you doing what Elon is trying do do. Your cost plus drugs was good for the people and good business. He is too self serving in a way that is not good for this country. He would have never supported Trump if he were a decent human being. He is to self serving. He gutted our government.
Ranked choice but I’m in support of constitutional amendments for judges and all elected officials that they can’t accept any donations from any company or lobbies and only a small limit like $50 from constituents. Presidential election based on a national popular vote and no gerrymandering
So does that mean the people running would be put on a list and the voters would rank them from 1 to whatever? Not sure how that would work. Wouldn't you still be voting for the party and not the person?
Isn’t that a clever way to play both sides? Agree with my vision or I will support a candidate to take votes from you,it can work both ways,clever,my opinion make civics education mandatory as early as possible and voting mandatory on all levels of elections especially if you get government funding
Oooooooo yaaaaaas Mark Cuban is for RCV! We need it so bad. An even larger improvement for RCV would be to have a point system in RCV. In a 3-person race, 1st choice gets 2 points, 2nd gets 1 point, 3rd gets 0. Then there wouldn’t be the “center squeeze” effect that RCV gets criticized for.
Anyone saying “Ranked choice voting could loosen the death grip of the two dominant parties” I wholeheartedly agree (could stand to lose the electoral college while we’re at it). Anyone saying “the left should splinter without altering how we vote”, is either an idiot, or hates the left.
I prefer jungle primaries. Best two vote getters move forward to general.

I like the comparison to the market. Dominant monopolies/oligopolies lead to higher prices, lower wages, lower quality, less innovation. No reason not to consider whether bad side effects also affect political markets.

Ranked Choice Voting is a big improvement, reduces but does not eliminate spoiler candidates because those who do not rank one of the final two are not excluded. Candidate Transferable Voting is less complicated for voters and also solves this. meezamuka.wordpress.com/2020/12/15/c...
Even if you don't like the concept for general elections, it's perfect for primaries. It takes a couple cycles, but people get it. "If you can make it there, you’ll make it anywhere!"
How about we make politicians and their donors subject to the same type of laws that exist in the securities industry, so that they can be held responsible for fraudulent statements made in connection with fundraising?
How do we get rid of citizens united? Our voices our often overshadowed by corporate interest.

If we’re going to have a winner take all system, rank choice voting is so much better than nothing. It gives 3rd parties a much better chance since we don’t use vote proportions like they do in parliamentary systems.

Great point comparing our current system to industry. The two parties have a monopoly and should be broken up.
Ranked choice voting would have a greater impact on democracy in the US than any other single item possible. The change in the manner of election remove the “winner takes all” politics, forces power sharing and stabilises a multi-party system.
Is this a thing now for billionaires to be the ones to decide how elections should be conducted? Or start a political party?
The media and their billionaire owners game every vote to make the result 50:50, making action impossible. However, the only time FPTP can be replaced is in exactly that situation, a hung administration. Voting reformers need to take note and advantage of this.
And then do what we do here in Australia, make voting mandatory. When everyone votes it eliminates the most extreme actors on all sides.
RCV needs to be brought up in any discussion about the parties. Never stop.
Do you understand that those of us that have seen people with enormous money, power and an audience like Elon spending 250 million getting Donald elected and destroying government w/ DOGE, makes us uneasy when another billionaire like yourself is offering to throw in your support?

RCV reduces the incidence of spoilers, but it must be adopted state by state.

Admire you taking a stance, but RCB does not increase the viability of 3rd parties. It does tend to help moderates in primaries in both parties, however, which is a good thing.
Preferential voting and compulsory voting would solve many problems. You wouldn't be fighting voting purges because everyone has to vote. It won't happen because the GOP would never win an election again. We have more freedom knowing our vote counts and is counted oh and free healthcare for everyone
Why reduce everything to a business model. Although I think I agree that the two party system should be killed off, along with the electoral college, it's because I'm a coalition person. I like to get others expertise and opinions before making a deck especially if it's going to affect them.

Please no. Ralph Nader tanked Gore. Jill Stein gave us Trump. Get a foolproof system with paper verification for voting, and make it easier for every eligible voter to cast their ballot. End gerrymandering and get misinformation labeled on all social media while restoring the fairness doctrine.
It's a start, but what odds is this thought or process going to have to go through for it to come to fruition/become reality.

Ranked choice is good. But just wanting it won’t be enough. Campaign money needs to be fully public and the country needs opened up to true plurality. Proportionality won’t necessarily fix representation. But ranked choice can actively drive more people to polls if they feel more represented.
