Doug Wilson, leader of Hegseth’s denomination CREC, downplays slavery’s evil and called the antebellum South the last Christendom.

Rank-and-file MAGA probably aren’t, on average, as down with slavery. Many don’t know their influencers said these things, in my experience. But the seeds for whitewashing slavery are deep and predate Trump, he just gives crass and brutish voice to them.
