When the NYPD (like CPD and MPD before them) arrests community members who gather and witness and protest while ICE assaults and abducts people, that’s NYPD participating in immigration operations. Then the mayor interprets the law to claim no “participation” here: www.thecity.nyc/2026/05/04/v...

I assumed Mamdani would not meaningfully stand up to the NYPD because no mayor meaningfully stands up to their police. But I did not assume he would try to pretend the NYPD weren’t working with ICE.
