Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shot down a proposal by the secretary of Homeland Security to screen international passengers at airports in sanctuary cities, which would force airlines to re-route flights. “We have people from around the world and around the country that need to be able to fly into all different kinds of places,” Duffy said during a hearing before House lawmakers. “We shouldn’t shut down air travel in a state that doesn’t agree with our politics.” Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin floated the idea on Fox News last month, and according to an article in The Atlantic, pressed the idea earlier this month with airline executives, who were not receptive.

Reading a T magazine travelogue on Buddhism in Asia and this author both name drops Pankaj Mishra's incredible "An end to suffering" and then seemingly earnestly asks how Buddhism has come to appeal to global elites.... MY BROTHER IN BUDDHA MISHRA ANSWERED THAT. A central point of Mishra's book is that Buddhism emerged out of a turbulent merchant society upending traditional certainties in a way that resembles modernity. So it's no surprise that elites seeking relief from all this upheaval turn to Buddhism just like their antecedents... And this just raises an interesting question. Surely it would be more efficient to point to the original work. But taking 8000 words to say roughly the same thing gets your vacation paid for so you do it. How much intelligence is wasted in this way?

After consideration of the wording of the Ordinance itself, the various interpretations of the Ordinance by the state trial courts, and the Florida Supreme Court's ruling on the breast portion of the Ordinance, this Court is of the opinion that the Florida Supreme Court would interpret the buttocks portion of the ordinance to prohibit exposure of any portion of the buttocks. Further, the state's highest court would probably define the word “buttocks” to include the area at the rear of the body which lies between two imaginary lines running parallel to the ground when a person is standing, the first or top such line drawn at the top of the cleavage of the nates and the second or bottom line drawn at the lowest visible point of this cleavage or the lowest point of the curvature of the fleshy protuberance, whichever is lower, and between two imaginary lines on each side of the body, which lines are perpendicular to the ground and to the horizontal lines described above, and which perpendicular lines are drawn through the point at which each nate meets the outer side of each leg. The Ordinance would be violated, therefore, if any portion of this area is visible from any vantage point. Since this is the “core meaning” which “persons of ordinary intelligence” would draw from the language of the Ordinance as it is written, the Ordinance is not impermissibly vague.
