They should lean the other way and call it Vancouver and Quadra's Island as the Great Powers originally intended.
Don't count on that. That would require @nytimes.com to care more about facts than ideology.
I wouldn’t hold my breath. I’ve heard Vancouver locals refer to it as Victoria Island.

to be fair that is also the kind of thing some smarter-than-thou editor would change to be wrong
You'd think that even if a journalist or editor doesn't live in a place that they could, ya know, do journalism to discover the difference. 🤷🏽♂️
