Our event was a discussion on women's sex-based rights. That was made clear to Féile when our application was submitted. This decision follows an organised online campaign against the event. That campaign included misogynistic, abusive and, in our view, threatening rhetoric directed at women associated with it. No organisation that values free speech should allow intimidation to determine which voices are heard. Féile describes itself as a festival of the pople, of ideas, culture and debate. We therefore have to ask whether its commitment to free speech extends only to viewpoints with which it agrees and only to some people. Through this event women have sought to discuss their own rights. Feile has chosen to silence the voices of the very group that makes up half the population. Women are not a fringe interest group. We are half the population. Women advocating for their sex-based rights are not campaigning against the rights of others. We reject any attempt to misrepresent either our organisation or the purpose of this event. We remain committed to ensuring this important discussion takes place. I brought the "upskirting law" into effect in 2019. Let's talk about that image JK Rowling shared. She did this to humiliate artist Freda Wallace. That is a specific motivation we included in the Voyeurism Act. We fought for, and included it *specifically* because men often upskirt women (it is overwhelmingly men) to "punish" them for their bodies, clothing and for being a woman, by humiliating them. That's called misogyny and it's what we're witnessing Joanne do here: transmisogyny. It goes like this: 1. Target someone you dehumanise 2. Assert power with demand (Joanne wanted to debate Freda, for me a man wanted a "yes" to his advances) 3. If they refuse, punish them by capturing a "humiliating" image of their body 4. Share it to exert power and humiliate Exact same logic.

Dear Mr Perkins, It's been clear for some time that you have been refusing to take the impact of Labour's treatment of trans people seriously. With the EHRC guidance, trans people will be faced with the options of either outing themselves and putting themselves at risk of abuse and assault or refusing and putting themselves at the risk of harassment, abuse and assault. Many trans people, myself included, are choosing the third option of simply removing ourselves from public life. You can pretend that the Equality Act affords us protection, but when [the Irish comedy writer] instructed half a million people to begin assaulting trans women Keir Starmer and Wes Streeting both stated that the police need to concentrate on "serious issues," policing "streets not tweets." As these threats are being actioned, there is no escaping the fact that Labour have enabled and participated in this bigotry and hatred. As expected, the EHRC guidance has now been published and makes anti-trans segregation the default for service providers. This will endanger trans people and any cis person deemed to be insufficiently gender conforming. Any cis woman suspected of being trans is now in danger of harassment and abuse, purely to appease a small number of bigots. The guidance also protects 'gender-critical' people from being accused of being anti-trans and religious groups who harass LGBT people of being homophobic. Calling these people bigots is now classed as discrimination. Last April, The Labour Party had the option of introducing amendments to the Equality Act to ensure that all are protected. They have instead decided that the Equality Act was actually a Tranny Segregation Act. Assuming we don't withdraw from the ECHR, the UK will be sued and will lose again. But in the meantime, far too many trans lives will be lost.

Answer James Murray Labour Ealing North Commons > Answered on 1 May 2025 The Supreme Court ruling made it clear that the provision of single-sex spaces is on the basis of biological sex. Providers should note and follow the ruling. It is important that we ensure dignity and respect for all. Trans people should have access to services they need but in keeping with the ruling. The Equality & Human Rights Commission, as Britain's Equalities watchdog, is developing updated guidance to support service providers. Ministers will consider the EHRC's updated draft once they have submitted it following further work in light of this ruling. The Government is considering the implications of the Court's judgment, including what this means for Government buildings.
