She will explore the potential of chitin and its derivatives as dietary intervention molecules and their promising impact on both the host and the pathogen. MICROBIOLOGY SEMINAR SERIES Ph.D. SPEAKER EVENT Shona Uniacke-Lowe University College Cork, Cork, Ireland Supervisor: Paul Ross Title: The antimicrobial potential of the deep-sea fish microbiome Shona will present her work on the screening of bacterial isolates from the microbiomes of deep-sea fish for antimicrobials, with a particular focus on finding novel bacteriocins. The deep-sea is one of the largest ecological habitats on Earth, yet one of the least explored, and so has great potential as a source of novel antimicrobial metabolites.
