It is tempting to read Johnson’s decision through the Lost Cause lens of the faithful slave, and postwar Confederate memory did exactly that with men like him. But loyalty to a dying man is not loyalty to slavery and Johnson’s next decision makes the distinction unmistakable. With Carter dead and his obligations, however he understood them, discharged, Johnson did not return to Texas and to bondage. He traveled instead to Baltimore to begin a new chapter of his life as a free man. That freedom proved heartbreakingly brief.

Artificial or rerecorded voice messages must include certain identification information: The identity of the individual, or other entity initiating the call must be clearly stated at the beginning of the prerecorded message. If the calling party is a corporate entity, the entity's official business name must be stated clearly at the beginning of the message. The telephone number of the calling party must be provided, either during or after the message.

In representing DOC, Reeves used the Artificial Intelligence tool ChatGPT to assist him in drafting two (2) separate motions. Some of the legal citations Reeves listed in the motions were false. The false citations were generated by ChatGPT and are commonly referred to as “hallucinations.” Reeves failed to verify whether all the citations generated by ChatGPT were accurate.
