Officially reopened last month, Utrecht's Park Paardenveld has been reimagined as a climate-resilient, people-focused public space. While the park itself first emerged from the restoration of the Catharijnesingel, its redesign turns leftover urban space dominated by cars into a true community park.🧵

Thirty-six on-street parking spaces have been removed, freeing up space for 500 m² of asphalt to be replaced with greenery. The result is 2,100 m² of open lawn, 2,800 m² of planting beds, and 15 trees that provide shade, biodiversity, and resilience against increasingly intense summers and rainfall.
And esthetics matter too. Nice scenery!
