Luna, a blue roan mare who looks black in her winter coat, reaches forward with her nose and mouth to examine the spearmint I have in my hand. She has an inquisitive, goofy look on her face with ears forward. Our donkey is barely visible in the background to the left of the picture.

Luna, a blue roan mare, being taken at a walk on the line. She is completely visible and moving clockwise. She doesn’t look terribly thrilled, but not terribly bothered either. Her croup is really starting to roan out but her neck, not so much. She wears a gray pad with a standard looking roping saddle that has a light tan pommel.

A photo of Strawberry, mostly her head, but she is walking towards me so a leg is visible, wearing a pink fly mask that has a nose cover. Strawberry is a young, graying red base made. She has a pretty wide blaze that goes all the way down her nose, thus the need for a nose cover fly mask. Her ears are up as she looks at me holding up the phone.

Toast approaching a young mare who is standing at the fence off camera. He randomly gets very excited (since he is a stud colt) when mares just…exist. Toast is a grulla champagne, a light-colored horse with darker brown points. He is properly “trit-trotting” up to the iron fence, showing off his Spanish breed conformation proper. He would make such a nice little dressage pony, lol. His front left is extended forward, with the diagonal back following. The front leg is nice and straight out. His neck is up and arched. This is the kind of behavior slash movements that (in part) inspired dressage.

A picture taken mostly of the sky with pastel clouds from gathering dusk. The moon hangs high, nearly full. A black horse grazes under a bare tree in a pasture. She’s actually blue roan, but her winter coat turns her black. There’s a donkey also on the very left edge of the picture.

A picture from directly in front of Toast apparently receiving the best scratches of his life on his chest. He is a grulla champagne colt, which gives him slightly darker fur on his face, making an almost lavender color on the nose. He is tilting his head and pulling his lips into a parrot mouth shape. The lense focuses heavily on his snoot as he gently writhes. Flame can be sort of seen behind him, a chestnut gelding.

Three horses eat at a hay bale together. In order of appearance there is Strawberry, a graying chestnut mare with a big blaze, Zira, a deep bay mare with a star and snip, and Wildfire, a flaxen chestnut mare with a blaze. I pan to each of them before settling on the main muncher, 🍓.

Strawberry, a greying red (roan?), reaches over the bars of the fence to pilfer what she believes to be food, but I was in fact empty-handed. She has a big blaze that covers her entire snoot, ans demands to be booped with its appearance. All you can see really is her nose and lips, her right eye and cheek, and her big ears poking up from behind.

Wildfire, a flaxen chestnut mare, stands facing away from the camera at three quarters angle. Her tail is swept by the cool breeze, and her expression isn’t thrilled (lol). She’s getting quite round in her belly due to the growing foal.

Zira’s baby bump from slightly below and looking just in front of her teats. She is a bay mare with a light-furred underside. Only a few seconds in, a kick from the foal jiggles the belly closest to the viewer. There is vague movement before another kick on the other side.

Tari, an aged, red dun stallion, prances up to Chica, a bay mare with two white socks. Tari’s neck is arched as he strikes a pose on his approach. Chica is hard to impress; her ears are back as she scowls at his advances.

Zira, a bay mare with a big white star and snip, licking after getting a drink. I caught her mid-tongue-out. Her forelock is in a messy braid (because it’s long AF, and I felt like it was getting in her eyes). There is a very full pond behind her. Ironically, she’s drinking from a trough off camera and not the big pond lol.

Me riding Luna through our snowy paddock. I am wearing an orange hoodie and grey sweatpants; my helmet is blue and green (and very hard to make it out, but it has a T. rex decal on it). Luna looks like a regular ranch horse, she is a lithe blue roan mare, but the roan is less visible in her black winter coat. She walks out against the fence line with a big stride; the snow is up to her fetlocks. Her expression is alight with curiosity. She wears a hackamore with a purple and pink mecate. Shes donned in my medium brown barrel saddle and a gray pad. The woods beyond is steeped with bare trees covered in snow. The sky is somewhat more tinted blue than the snow but not by much. A large bird is flying overhead way in the distance.

I’m also wearing a ball cap and have a pink warmer around my neck. Most of Tari’s body is obscured, but I’m cradling his head in my hand with his face next to mine. Tari has his ears up and forward, and his eyes are bright. Snow covers the ground and still falls steadily. Tari is dusted in powdered snow. He is a red dun Quarter Horse stallion.

A picture taken on hoof trim day by my boyfriend, Ray. Ivory, our hoof trimmer and one of my best friends, and I are taking what looks to be a break from the hoof trimming extravaganza. In reality, we’re letting my senior stallion, Tari, a red dun in color, bask in the chilly wind and warm sun. We were one hoof in and, once Ivory finished it, we put the hoof down and he immediately relaxed. He sighed, licked and chewed, and his eyes got heavy; all signs that the nervous system was coming down. We let him have that moment and just watched, privileged to give this stallion the end of life care he deserves. Ivory is squatted ont he ground to the left, all bundled up in winter gear, though her hair pokes out in a bun on the top of her head. I am on the right and am laid down on my side in the grass, propped up by my elbow. I’m wearing an orange hoodie and mulberry coveralls. You can see one of Tari’s mares Chica, a bay, in the background eating hay.

Wildfire, a flaxen chestnut mare, sipping water from the trough, facing away from me at an angle the shows the rotund-ness. Her belly is growing pretty big now, not the biggest pregnant mare belly I’ve seen, but I feel like since I see her all the time, it’s harder to tell. It is quite round, however. Lol. The ground is saturated with puddles from the storm early this morning.

A brightly edited portrait of Wildfire in her new turnout blanket (a hooded one, at that)! The colors of the blanket are blue, magenta, and yellow; a vibrant flower pattern covers most of the blanket. Wildfire herself is a flaxen chestnut mare, sporting a halter that, thought not by the same company, is magenta with a floral inlay. Wildfire has a decent-sized blaze that comes down her nose. Her expression is gentle, and her eye is soft.

She wears a black rope halter and matching lead rope. The blanket she wears is a purple chevron pattern. I’ve edited the pic to be slightly warmer and more saturated; the leaves are warm fall colors and the sky is blue.

There is a hay bag on the ground we had just filled for some other horses. Her face is basically a big white blur with some pink as she comes to caress the phones.

Zira, a bay mare stands in portrait. She has a big star, though hidden by her forelock here, and large snip that runs down between her nostrils and onto her lips. She has fine leg bones, the back ones having high stockings that are barely visible out of focus behind her. Her freshly groomed mane is long and reaches down past her neck.

Three horses stand under the shade of a tree with the sun behind them. From right to left there is Skye, Tari, and then Chica. Skye is silver bay, Tari is red dun, and Chica is bay. They look very peaceful napping under the dappled shadows from the tree.

Zira, a bay mare stands in frame. She has a big star and a large snip with high back stockings. She is looking out to the pasture of her new home with interest. She has a very delicate head with a bit disproportionately large ears. Her mane rests on her right side, and is in need of a brushing and detangling session, but, even so, it is quite long.

Today was hoof trim day, exactly two years on the dot since we brought Tari home. I’m sitting on the ground with him after his front feet have been trimmed. He was very much enjoying the way his feet felt. Tari is normally extremely stoic, but he brought his nose up and sniffed me with his ears forward. He is an aged red dun stallion. I am wearing a gray shirt and pale pink hate with my hair in a bun through the hat. Fall is starting late for us, but it’s evident by the leaf litter and changing leaf color.

Toast, a grulla champagne colt, getting his teeth floated under sedation. He has the speculum on his head that allows the dentist to keep the mouth open while she works. Our dentist is kneeled on the ground in front of him as she takes down sharp points on the teeth. Her assistant is just behind Toast’s head.

Dusk gathers in this photo; I enhanced the purples and pinks that cast from the setting sun. The nearly full moon is visible between Luna’s ears. It’s a “between the ears” shot, though captured a bit from the side so it’s not dead on between her ears. She is a blue roan, so the ears are black. You can see the edge of my fingers fastening the rope halter she wears.

Three chickens clumped in a group together are foraging through leaf litter with their heads down, two black hen and an orange/red hen. You can see the fluffy “bloomers” on both of the black hens from this angle.
