It started life in ‘80s as LHX, or Light Helicopter Experiment. The goal was to replace Vietnam era recon helicopters like OH-58 Kiowa, as well as gunships like AH-1 Cobra, with a modular, highly survivable platform. (2/17)

The best recipe for surviving combat is not to be dragged into one in the first place. Stealth became the design mantra: undetectable by radar, untrackable by heat-seeking missiles, unheard by enemies. Unseen. Untouchable. (3/17)
