It all starts with production wells that pump geothermal fluid made of hot, high-pressure water and steam. Some are near the plant, others closer to the volcano. Once pumped, pipelines bring the water to the plant for separation. (4/10)

In less extreme conditions, first-stage separators would be placed directly at well sites. But because the weather makes accessing and maintaining wells nearly impossible in winter, their design is kept as simple as possible. (5/10)
