Root hairs collapse prematurely in autophagy-deficient mutants. Roots from 6-day-old wild type seedling (left root) and atg5-1 mutant (right root) growing side-by-side on the same agar plate were imaged by time lapse imaging on a digital microscope. Time lapses are 10 min, duration is almost 3 days. Scale bar, 500μm.
