these bishops make special appeals to the men and women who serve in military and law enforcement, it is worth remembering that the responsibility to respond in an era of renewed "zeal for war" and toxic nativism falls on all American Catholics. In a homily on Feb. 4, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez joined a crowd of other Catholic bishops speaking out that month, aghast at the ICE terror in Minneapolis, and called U.S. Catholics, as disciples of Jesus, to peaceful, prayerful action. WELCOME! Aqui en Chicago celebrates the historically persistent cultural presence of Latino/a/e communities in Chicago from the 1800s to the present. These communities make up nearly a third of Chicago's population and a much larger percentage in many suburbs. When students from Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy in Pilsen protested CHM in 2019 for a lack of Latino/a/e representation, they stood on the shoulders of generations of Latino/a/es and allies who worked to overcome race-based injustice and expand inclusion within civic, cultural, and educational spaces. The work of the students inspired this project and our ongoing work to amplify voices from Latino/a/e communities and beyond. This exhibition honors Latino/a/e communities in Chicago and explores varied forms of Latino/a/e resistance, from overt acts, such as protests, strikes, and boycotts, to everyday ones, such as spiritual and linguistic practices, cooking, placemaking, and placekeeping through the arts, monuments, celebrations, and business. It also encourages people to take inspiration from the resistance strategies throughout the exhibition and recognize them in everyday life. Estamos aqui en Chicago. ¡BIENVENIDOS! Aqui en Chicago celebra la presencia cultural y historicamente persistente de las comunidades latinas en Chicago desde el siglo XIX hasta el presente. Estas comunidades constituen casi un tercio de la población de Chicago y un porcentaje mucho mayor en muchos suburbios. The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts is pleased to present Quilts Japan: The 17* Annual Quilt Nihon. For more than a decade, WMQFA has been the exclusive Midwest host for this celebrated exhibition, which premieres at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum before traveling internationally. This exhibition features the most extraordinary and innovative works from the biennial competition of Japanese Handicraft Instructors' Association (HIA). JHIA sponsors the largest international quilt contest in Japan and one of the most prestigious in the world. This year's Quilt Nihon exhibition features award-winning and notables works, including entries from the competition's newest category, miniature quilts For 50 years now, JHIA has promoted handcrafted arts in Japan by educating and training instructors in eight specialties: quilting, knitting, embroidery, lace making, painting, weaving leather work, and flower art. The JHIA boasts 7.000 certified quilt instructors among its 12,000 members. Its biennial Quilt Nihon exhibition is a must-see for quilting aficionados who marvel at the complexity of these masterpieces, as well as first-time visitors who simply appreciate their beauty. The exhibition only travels to four venues in the U.S., including the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts.
