BREAKING: Iran's IRGC says it has completely destroyed Amazon's central data hub in Bahrain with several cruise missiles and warns more are coming, per Fars News. The attack marks a new phase: Iran is now targeting U.S. tech infrastructure. The IRGC has warned 18 American tech companies — including Microsoft, Intel, Cisco, and Google — that they are legitimate targets. AWS facilities in the UAE and Bahrain have already been hit before, disrupting banking and critical systems that rely on Amazon's cloud. Data centers are now strategic targets. Iran argues these companies support U.S. military and intelligence operations. By striking Amazon, Tehran is signaling that American tech firms operating in the region are no longer off-limits. The war has expanded into the digital domain.

False — extremely false, in quite significant ways. I’ve attached multiple sources below. ICE and CBP agents are routinely deployed abroad to participate in conjunction with such nation building activities as training Afghan and Iraqi military members on border control, to cite merely one example. The remit of ICE / CBP isn’t and hasn’t been limited to immigration or domestic ops in decades — since (in the case of CBP) 9/11, when INS and BP were shifted to the control of newly created DHS (ICE was created after). When the US Navy retired its Lockheed P-3 Orion stealth surveillance aircrafts, DHS acquired the entire fleet — and ICE / CBP routinely use them explicitly for cross-border / over-ocean operations across long distances without the need for proximity to refueling stations. Marines defend the nation overseas. ICE enforces the law here at home against people who are in the country illegally and often resist lawful orders. No, ICE does not have a bigger budget than the Marine Corps. That’s just dishonest political theater. Marines operate on $57.8 billion a year. ICE’s normal annual budget is around $11 billion. The big supplemental number you keep citing is multi-year surge funding not some new empire. The Marine Corps continues to do more with less funding and with higher standards than some people ever managed to accomplish in their entire careers. But hey, it’s easy to play military expert from the cheap seats when your own service benefited from lowered bars. Body cameras? Should’ve been standard issue yesterday. Stop using the issue as a prop and actually field them. And spare us the “gestapo” routine while ignoring why enforcement is finally happening after years of open borders from your party. In case you’re interested in DHS, ICE, and CBP’s international operations beyond the conventional wisdom of “domestic immigration enforcement” — here are several resources on the ICE and CBP you *don’t* read about in the headlines. (Did you know ICE / CBP acquired the Navy’s entire Lockheed P-3 Orion stealth, long-range, maritime patrol aircraft fleet? Well, you do now!)
No, ICE absolutely did NOT order “an immediate end to vehicle stops” for immigration enforcement. Too many of you are prematurely celebrating an alleged victory, instead of recognizing the smoke and mirrors obfuscation campaign. Go reread those primary sources, people. ICE is “pausing” (eg, temporarily suspending) “most” (eg, not all) vehicle stops “for immigration enforcement” (this is not, in fact, ICE’s only operational area; the agency is an arm of umbrella department Homeland Security, as is CBP, and that ‘national security’ remit is why they have tactical / special ops / etc). Translation (all we know for sure): — ICE agents who are working the immigration enforcement beat won’t do as many vehicle stops for a while. Reading Between The Lines (just a few highlights of the many, many things we don’t know): — what vehicle stops are ICE agents doing immigration enforcement allowed to make? — what vehicle stops are ICE agents doing immigration enforcement NOT allowed to make? — can ICE agents still make vehicle stops if they are NOT directly involved in immigration enforcement? — what about other duties related to (the stated purpose of, anyway) narcotrafficking / nat sec / counterterrorism / espionage surveillance / human trafficking (etc)? — will CBP agents also have to follow this new ICE guideline? If so, which ones? — how long will this pause last? — who makes the call on restarting those stops and why? — who decides which stops are ok and which stops fall under the “most” category? how? why? is the public allowed to know? — who checks to make sure a stop some agent made was still allowed? — what happens to prevent an agent who made one not-ok stop from doing it again? The widespread journalistic lack of concern for precise and accurate language (in general, but ESPECIALLY) about DHS, ICE, and CBP is horrifying. Words matter. Critical thinking matters. The night bin Laden was killed, I was on a plane overnight from the US to Brazil, and arrived not knowing (the old days when we weren't constantly on our phones). After Obama's announcement, there were raucuous street celebrations and parties in the US. I entered a cab and the driver mentioned the bin Laden killing (first I heard of it) and he said: I get why the US wanted to kill him. I can even see the argument that it's just. But I can't understand how people can pour into the streets to have parades and celebrations of the death of a human being, no matter how evil (he was Catholic and put it in those terms). I hadn't thought about it that way, and so wrote about it raising that question, and it provoked intense rage.
Germany did not lose the World Cup yesterday. It was robbed from a title by Americans. Some insane info from people close to the team: 1. German players could not sleep the night before because of gunshots outside the hotel 2. Hotel manager kept offering fentanyl to German coaches, when they refused he called them "eurocucks" 3. Many players got sick because hotels had AC blasting extremely cold 4. Hotel staff kept playing loud African-American rap music at 3am 5. The German hotel was a 5-hour drive from the stadium 6.
