Senator Schumer, As part of Congress, one of your constitutional roles is power of the purse. Congress overall, and you specifically, have abdicated that completely this year with an ongoing series of continuing resolutions. As a leader in the Democratic party, you’re failing the whole country, not just your state. Supporting this travesty of a budget is writing a blank check for Musk and Trump and their appointees to run roughshod over the country, kill our economy, destroy our government, and damaging our allies. If you support this CR, you’ll be the Neville Chamberlain of the Senate. Please, I ask you, vote no on cloture for this continuing resolution. You’ve said supporting this CR will limit damage to the country. How? What damage already done or planned is less than you anticipate? Federal workers are being dismissed daily, federal agencies and programs are being shuttered and destroyed. Key programs for safety, health, security, and weather are being gutted. Exactly what more would a shutdown do? The time to fight is before we’ve lost everything. The time to fight is now, not in six months. We need someone who can stand up for and fight for democracy and democratic ideals. We want a leader who can lead. You’re showing you’re not capable of this. Please resign and let someone who can lead take your seat.
