They can't, and it looks like the tools they used wouldn't have either, unless they left out crucial details from their methodology. Temporary modifications of their website have no effect.

This would mean the responses were derived from third-party sources, such as other websites making claims about the BBC. LLMs have many well-known limitations, like being gullible and hallucinating when they lack sufficient training data. I hope their next report has more details and corrections.
I use Perplexity Pro, it interacts with a number of LLMs but definitely accesses the internet. The best option uses the open source Deepseek R1 which they host themselves (not the censored one from Deepseek themselves).
