I live by a peacock farm 🦚 So, I'm driving and there are peacocks crossing the street. I stop to let them pass safely. A car comes up behind me and starts honking at me, waving their hand at me for to just go. SIR! We are by a peacock farm. The peacocks are crossing the street. Give them time, they are taking a silly little walk for their silly mental health. Maybe they're trying to get to their library 😂

Your story, your voice matters. Children belong in stories, libraries, school, at home. Children are not prisoners. They should never be in cages, be in immigration detention centers. Mychal reads from his & Lorraine Nam’s book to read them home, where they belong 💚
Mychal addresses the complexity of the emotions & feelings of Mother’s Day. He misses her, but still shouted “Happy Mother’s Day, Grammy!” into the world, believing she heard it. It makes him think of the emotions & feelings likely accompanying motherhood itself. To care so deeply about one’s child, that love must be profoundly beautiful while simultaneously profoundly overwhelming. He hopes moms give themselves permission to rest, to feel, to receive help. To know it’s okay, it’s okay to not be okay. He thinks of talks about postpartum depression with library moms, friends, and family. He hopes we don’t just thank moms, but we believe them, he hopes they receive care. If we value, love moms… together, we will build a world that values & cares for them. Not just on Mother’s Day, but every day
