Our intention for the “Ethical Romantasy” book list was to be a little cheeky, but we missed the mark with language that invoked judgement and caused harm. We deeply apologize for our framing. 1/4 We also recognize that the language we used in that post struck a nerve regarding book censorship, especially in the context of unprecedented book banning that has swept the country. 2/4 We want to reiterate in the strongest terms that Booklist and ALA aggressively stand against censorship efforts in our libraries, schools, and communities, and we strive to elevate the work of authors who have been traditionally marginalized from library shelves. 3/4 We’re grateful for the feedback and promise to do better going forward. 4/4

A classic argument both kinds of prohibitionists is that only banning a certain type of porn—lolishotacon and fictional nonconsent being the most common targets—is, against all odds, a fine use of state power. If adults making art for other adults is illegal, this is a victimless crime.
