A few years ago my daughter decided she wanted to go by a different name. It was hard at first but we went with it, supported her, told people at school, extended family, etc, and eventually got used to it. These days basically everyone in her life calls her by her new name, but once in a while I still mess up. So today I'm thankful that neither my mom, my dad, step-mom, high school friends nor any other person who knew me well when I was younger gave in to the temptation to lean in and say, "Not so easy, now, is it?"
